Child Care Services
When a child's safety cannot be assured in his/her home, the child may come into the residential care of CAS through voluntary agreements or Court orders. Children who enter into care through the Court process become wards of the Society. A child under the age of six can only be in temporary care of the CAS for a total of 12 months. A child six years and older can be in temporary care for up to a total of 24 mths. There are two types of wardship status - Society wards and Crown wards. If a child becomes a Crown ward, he/she remains in the care of the CAS until he/she is adopted or until he/she is 18 years old.
